“All charges against me were meant to damage my reputation.” This was said by Navin Ramgoolam who has once again appeared before the District Court of Port-Louis onThursday 14th of July. Three provisional charges of “public official using his office for gratification for another” against him in the case of sale of state land were crossed out. He is represented by Shaukat Oozeer, lawyer.
The former prime minister was arrested three times in connection with the investigation into the allocation of State land. He is, in fact, accused of having used his position to allocate land to the pandit Sungkur in Trou-aux-Biches, the Gowry brothers and Acharya Sonu Kumar Jha.
After his arrest, the Labour leader had said there was nothing illegal in his efforts. «Lezot dimoun donn par santenn arpan, bel bel lotel, bel bel tou sa la, pa fer narien. Mwa, mo donn ti dimounn. E mo fier. J’ai tout fait dans la légalité, leurs accusations ne reposent sur rien», he said.
