The cleaning operation by employees of the Ministry of Environment has began on Friday, 22 July in the lagoon at Le Bouchon.
This exercise comes after residents of the south coastal village found the presence of a black liquid-like heavy oil in the lagoon Thursday, July 21.
They suspect an oil spill from the MV Benita Liberian ship which is still stuck between reefs after a shipwreck on June 8. This liquid come from the hold of the MV Benita.
From the police side, it is stated that no new oil leaks has been observed since Friday morning, July 22 at Le Bouchon.
A salvage exercise of the MV Benita is expected on Saturday afternoon July 23.
