Oil spills from MV Benita were formed in the lagoon of Le Bouchon on Thursday July 21. For the authorities, it is a “normal” and not “very alarming” because “the majority of oil was pumped.”
According to a source close to the case, this happened because of the pressurization of the holds of the ship which is currently on the sidelines of the salvage of the bulk carrier to be held this Saturday. “Une petite quantité d’huile s’est déversée dans l’eau parce que le navire n’est pas stable,” says one of the authorities.
A major anti-pollution device was deployed by the National Coast Guard elements to contain the spilled oil.
