The schoolgirl of 16 involved in a prostitution network in Rodrigues has identified the driver of a politician as one of her customers.
An identification parade was held on Thursday, July 28 at the premises of the Port-Mathurin police station.
Arrested by the police, the driver received parole after paying a deposit of Rs 8000 and having signed an acknowledgment of debt of Rs 30 000. An interim accusation of sexual abuse of minor hangs over him.
A Mauritian was also arrested in connection with the investigation into the prostitution network. The 57 year old peddler was surprised on Tuesday, July 26 in a room in Rodrigues with a 16 year old schoolgirl.
The teenager confessed to having had sex with the peddler six times since February against a payment Rs 100 during interrogation.
The peddler was presented to justice in Rodrigues on Wednesday, July 27. Police have objected to his release on parole and he was taken back into custody. A provisional charge of sex with a minor has been brought against him.
It was during an operation of the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit (ADSU) and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Port Mathurin that the Mauritian was surprised with the schoolgirl in a room.
The girl also denounced a dozen of officials, including the driver of a politician. The police investigation continues.
