[Local News] Accident At Mapou: A 10 Year Old Girl Fighting For Survival At The SSRN Hospital ICU

A collision between two cars occurred around 3:35 PM at the Middle Road in Mapou on Monday, August 1. Five minors were injured in the accident. The youngest victim aged 10 resides in Vallée-des-Prêtres and was admitted to the intensive care unit at the SSRN hospital in Pamplemousses. Her 14 year old elder sister is also still admitted.

The drivers of the vehicles, a 49 year old resident of Mont Ida and the 40 year old mother of the two girls admitted at the hospital, were tested for alcohol after the accident. Both tests were negative.

The Piton police has been alerted and an investigation was opened to shed light on the circumstances of the accident.

Another road accident occurred at Brisée-Verdière around 22:35 PM on the same day. A minibus was trying to overtake a motorcycle when the driver rammed into the motorcycle. The 36 year old motorcyclist residing Plaine de Gersigny, Flacq was seriously injured. He was admitted to the Flacq Hospital and his condition is considered worrisome.

The driver of the minibus, a 64 year old resident of Ecroignard, was tested negative for alcohol.
