The Swiss national has recorded a statement to the police. John B. Basile, 75, was surprised when the bank announced that his account was empty. The divorced septuagenarian made a statement of transactions and the last dated back to August 8. In his statement recorded at the police station in Mahébourg, he claimed to have an amount of Rs 72,800 in his account but on Friday morning, there was nothing left.
The officers of the Mahébourg Criminal Investigation Division (CID) questioned the Swiss national on Friday afternoon. Investigators will interrogate his relatives in the coming days to shed light on this matter. John B. Basile established in Mauritius several years ago after marrying a Mauritian. He now lives alone in Mahebourg.
