The students of PBBC has gone on strike today September 7 after the announcement of the payment of exam fees for SC/HSC students with less than 90% presence by the Government last week.
In the video, we can see students shouting and throwing all sorts of things in the college yard including chairs and dustbins.
Cars were vandalized, including a police vehicle, projectiles sent in all directions, and students massed in the courtyard.
These “strikes” were held on Wednesday, September 7 at Basdeo Bissoondoyal college in Centre de Flacq. College students are protesting against the authorities’ decision to review the grant method of examination fees to be paid by School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) candidates.
The management of this college had to call the police order, the Special Support Unit (SSU) to control the spontaneous manifestation of college students.
On Tuesday September 6, the Ministry of Education has decided to grant a further extension of the deadline for payment of examination fees of SC and HSC candidates who did not meet the 90% attendance .
Parents initially had until Friday, September 9 to fulfill the payment. But after a meeting on Tuesday afternoon September 6 between the Ministry of Education and the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), the deadline has been pushed back to late October.
Parents whose children have not met the 90% attendance require to make the payment of exam fees.
