Ismael Valimamode, Commissioner for Health and Sports in Rodrigues, died on the night of Wednesday September 7 in Coromandel, Mauritius, following a disease.
This is what emerges from a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues on Wednesday, who announced a three-day mourning in the island as from Thursday September 8.
The funeral of Ismael Valimamode will be held on Thursday morning in Mauritius. The remains of the deceased leave Coromandel at 9 AM to get to the Riche-Terre cemetery, it is said in a statement from the Office of the Chief Commissioner.
Ismael Valimamode was a member of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. He had been elected under the Organisation of the People of Rodrigues (OPR) in the district No. 5 [Port Mathurin] Rodrigues regional elections in 2012.
Regional elections in Rodrigues, scheduled for February 2017, could occur earlier after Valimamode Ismael’s death. The OPR now has 10 elected members at the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. The Rodrigues Movement is represented by eight elected members whereas the Rodrigues Patriotic Front has 2 elected men.
