Plaine Verte: A Suspect Has Been Arrested After Three Houses Took Fire

A person suspected of being the cause of the fire that damaged three homes on Sunday night in Plaine-Verte was apprehended on Monday night October 10.

Some victims told police they saw the man, aged about twenty years, trying to set fire to their house.

The suspect Shariff B. who suffers from psychiatric disorders was arrested by the men of chief inspector Ghuburrun and was detained. He will give his version of events to the police and will appear in court in Port Louis today October 11 for his indictment. This investigation is supervised by the ACP Madhow.

The victims spent the night of Sunday to Monday with relatives. One of them, 89, who lived alone in a wooden house under sheets, is traumatized. She’s at her niece’s place who lives in the region. The son of the octogenarian, aged 53, says his mother is shocked. “She was alone at the time of the fire. It is my son who rooted her out of the burning house. My mother now lives with my cousin,” said the son of the retired woman.

The niece of the victim says the old lady spent a sleepless night. “She could not sleep all night and I had to watch her. She could take a rest only on the morning of Monday,” she said.
