Octopus fishing has resumed since Sunday October 16 after two months of closure.
A closure that may have brought luck to Simon Vurdapanaicken, a fisherman from Mahebourg. The 60 year old man has caught a big octopus weighing about 9 kg in the lagoon of Grand Port on Wednesday October 19.
Marie-Claire Vurdapanaicken, daughter of the fisherman says that it is rare to find a 9kg octopus:
“It’s very rare. Normally an octopus caught comes at around 4 kilos, but no more. The octopus has already been sold at Rs 125 a pound,” says Marie-Claire.
