A strange discovery was made by the prison guards at Petit-Verger on Monday morning October 17. On the basis of precise information, the supervisors of the Trade Office department found five cell phones that were hidden behind the sacred books and religious materials placed on furniture. These cell phones were equipped with their batteries, but did not contain any SIM card.

Following this discovery, the prison administration of Petit-Verger has opened an investigation to go back to the detainees who are concerned with these phones. The place where they were found is available only one day a week for a prayer session. It is under the responsibility of a detainee. The latter will be further investigated by the administration.

After the seizure, Vinod Appadoo, the Commissioner of Prisons, announced that the prison administration plans to set up a Reward system for keepers. “This incentive will motivate supervisors in their mission. These days, excavations have multiplied to eliminate all illegal items from the prison,” he said.

Petit-Verger Prison is famous for its unusual case. In 2013, forty detainees openly posted on Facebook. They even put a photo of themselves in their respective dormitory. In May 2013, officers were alerted by the strange presence of a soccer ball among the waste. Five brand new mobile phones were hidden inside.
