Vandana Rajnath, eldest daughter of Prem Koonjoo, relatives, friends, neighbors and politicians, including Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth and his wife Lady Sarojini Jugnauth, Finance Minister Jugnauth, the Health Minister Anil Gayan, and other parliamentarians came to honor the funeral.
Aged 40, the daughter of the Minister of Economy and ocean Marine Resources died on Saturday morning, October 22 at the burn unit of Victoria Hospital. She was admitted since October 3. She had suffered burns on that day.
In his version to investigators, the victim’s husband said that the latter, who was wearing a top, a pair of jeans and a ‘horni’, was cleaning the prayer room when her clothes caught fire. An oil lamp is the cause of the tragedy.
Despite the care that was lavished upon her, Vandana Rajnath succumbed to her burns. The autopsy concluded she died of “septicemia due to septic burns.”
Her funeral was held at 10:00 AM on Sunday. Vandana Rajnath was buried in the cemetery of the locality.
She leaves behind her husband and a son of a decade. Vandana Rajnath was the eldest of four children of the Minister Prem Koonjoo. Inconsolable, he said on Radio Plus on Saturday that his daughter has not had an easy life because she had four children and three of them died.
