“Asphyxia due to hanging.” This is the conclusion of the autopsy performed on the body of the constable Arvind Hurreechurn by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin and Dr. Harish Coomar Baichoo at noon this Sunday October 30.
Early indications from the investigation showed that the 30 year old police officer residing Temple Road, Riviere du Rempart, would have committed suicide by hanging with a sheet in his cell at the Detention Centre in Moka on Saturday night.
Assigned to Piton police station, Arvind Hurreechurn was arrested at the airport in Plaisance as he returned from Madagascar. A package containing two kilos of heroin, estimated at Rs 35 million, was discovered in his suitcase with a double bottom.
Gary Bruno Gopaul, another policeman assigned to the police station of Pamplemousses, was also arrested in the case.
