Gyaneeram Ramotar, 56, was sentenced to 28 years in prison by Judge Benjamin Marie-Joseph of the Assize Court on Wednesday morning November 9.Gyaneeram and Sunita Ramotar lived together for 28 years. But one fine day, doubt settled in the couple. The 56-year-old man then hatched a plan to kill his wife he suspected of infidelity.
During his trial in the Assize Court on Monday October 31, Gyaneeram Ramotar pleaded guilty while apologizing. “I loved her,” he said at the end of his trial.
Gyaneeram Ramotar, a farm worker living in Clémencia, testified that his wife’s behavior, who was in the same trade, changed before he killed her. The crime took place on April 1, 2013 at their home.
Gyaneeram Ramotar explained that Sunita prefers to isolate herself with her cell phone to answer calls. He added that the atmosphere in their home was not the same on Saturdays.
If they used to enjoy a hearty meal, this was no longer the case. This is why Gyaneeram Ramotar suspected his wife of infidelity.
