The Minister of Public Infrastructure and Transport Nando Bodha announced on Thursday morning 17th of November that new measures to strengthen road safety will soon be implemented.
Nando Bodha, who was participating in the motorcycle-school project at Reduit, says the law will soon be amended to classify motorcyclists. To be able to ride a 50cc bike, one has to be at least 18 years old, explains Nando Bodha.
To be eligible to ride a bike of 50cc bike to 125cc one has to be at least 20 years old, while a number of years of experience will be demanded from motorcyclists to be able to drive the bikes over 125cc .
According to Nando Bodha, motorcyclists are involved in one third of accidents on our roads. The motorcycle-school project aims to train 45 police officers, who will then be assigned to the 9 motorcycle driving schools of the island – one in each district.
The aspiring motorcyclists will then have to be trained in these driving schools.
