The investigators, supported by the members of the Drug Brigade [Adsu], are trying to get hold of documents relating to the purchase of boats that would have been used in the transport of drugs between Mauritius and Madagascar.

The Central CID and the navy commandos were summoned on the spot for the smooth operation of this operation.

It all started with the arrest of Jean Didier Jason Peres, skipper aged 33 years living in Bambous on Friday morning November 25. He was returned to the police cell after his appearance before magistrate Adila Hamuth of the Port Louis court.

Jean Didier Jason Peres faces a provisional charge of money laundering. He is accused of having awarded a sum of 12,600 euros [about Rs 500,000] to a third person for the purchase of a boat, although he should have known that the money came from an illegal activity, including drug trafficking.

The boat was seized.
